Anna Eastman is a resident of the Heights and a product of public schools in Richardson, Texas. Anna graduated from the University of Texas in 1992 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art History. She received a Master of Social Work in 1993 from Our Lady of the Lake University.
While receiving her Masters, Anna worked for Providence Home in San Antonio, a foster home and daycare for children infected with HIV/AIDS. She provided transportation for non-resident children so they could participate in their daycare program. She served as an advocate for these children and organized day care/summer-camp for program participants.
After receiving her Masters, she worked as a lead Social Worker for Communities in Schools at Gardendale Elementary in the Edgewood District in San Antonio.
Anna and her husband Brad Eastman, an attorney with Cameron International, are avid supporters of public education. Anna and Brad have three children whom all attend HISD schools: Ely, 12, attends T. H. Rogers Middle School, Abigail, 9, and Daniel, 7, both attend Travis Elementary.
In 2002, they co-founded the 11 ½ Street Foundation which recognizes outstanding veteran teachers who are willing to go the distance above and beyond for all children. They helped fund the foundation which rewards teachers with a monetary award to be used personally and for their respective schools. They also awarded college scholarships to at risk children who have graduated from Reagan and Davis High School over the past seven years.
In 2003, Anna headed up Travis Elementary School PTA Ad-Hoc Transition Committee which facilitated the move of students to temporary buildings next to Ketelsen Elementary while Travis Elementary was closed for major renovations. This position dealt with concerns parents had about transportation and facilities. From 2005-2007, Anna served as Travis Elementary PTA President.
In 2008 Anna helped organize the Heights Campaign Office for Barack Obama. She served as a precinct captain for the Obama Campaign and as Precinct Chair at the Democratic Precinct Convention.
